The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus – Legend, Location, and Spiritual Significance
The Seven Sleepers of Ephesus is a famous early Christian legend about seven young men who sought refuge in a cave to escape religious persecution during the Roman Empire. Refusing to accept the divinity of Roman rulers, they remained steadfast in their belief in one God and in Jesus the Messiah.
According to the story, when they were sentenced to death, the youths fled to a cave and prayed for divine protection. God answered their prayers by placing them into a miraculous sleep that lasted for centuries. When they awoke, they believed they had only slept for a few hours, symbolizing faith, resurrection, and divine power.
Although widely known in Christian tradition, the story is not mentioned in the Bible. However, it holds significant importance in Islamic tradition and is referenced in Surah Al-Kahf of the Quran.
